Algarve University opens nominations for the Manuel Gomes Guerreiro Award
Organised by the University of the Algarve, with the sponsorship of Loulé City Council and Faro City Council, the Prize has a single pecuniary value of 10 thousand Euros. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the Prize now returns for its second edition.
Presided over by the vice-rector for research and culture of UAlg, Nuno Bicho, the jury for the 2022 edition is composed of Francisco Louçã, full professor of Economics at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG) of the University of Lisbon; Helena Pereira, president of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT); Luís Raposo, archaeologist and president of ICOM Europe; Maria do Carmo Fonseca, full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon; Maria Eduarda Gonçalves, full professor at ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa; and Zita Vale, principal coordinating professor at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Politécnico do Porto.
All authors of any nationality will be admitted to the competition, with a particular effort being made to stimulate young researchers.
Each candidate may only submit a work that has been published in the year of the competition or in the previous year, and that has not been awarded a prize previously. If the candidate submits a PhD thesis, this will only be accepted if it has been completed.
The works submitted to the competition must be written in Portuguese or English.
The prize will be awarded in December, of each calendar year, in the public ceremony of the University Day.
It is recalled that the "Professor Manuel Gomes Guerreiro Prize" was publicly presented on January 24, 2019, when the rector of UAlg, Paulo Águas, recalled that "institutions must have memory to have a future", remembering the illustrious professor and researcher, first Rector of the University of Algarve, on the commemoration of the centenary of his birth. The first edition was awarded to Paulo Henrique Faria Nunes, Brazilian academic, for the work "A Institucionalização da Pan-Amazônia".
