Characterization of the subvarieties of W, when their idempotents form a subsemigroup

Resumo: We present a study on the structrure of the subvarieties of W (the variety of semigroups where the product of two elements lies in a subgroup) when the set of its idempotents, E(S), is a subsemigroup. The point of view we adopt is to first decompose a relatively complex semigroup into a collection of subsemigroups, each of which has a somewhat simpler structure, and then compose a complicated and “bigger” semigroup from simpler ones.
