Ana Matias
Ana Matias is an assistant researcher at University of Algarve. She has a Geology Degree (1996), a MSc degree in Coastal and Marine Studies (2000) and a PhD in Marine Geology (2006), and a MSc degree in Science Communication (2019). She devoted most of her academic career to research in coastal geological processes, with participation in 22 projects that covered topics such as storm impacts, dune vulnerability, inlet dynamics, coastal evolution and climate change. She coordinated RUSH and EVREST projects (FCT national funding) and was WP leader on BARDEX II project (EU funding). Since 2017, her main research focus is Transdisciplinary Research on Geoscience, Art, and Communication. She has been undertaking a number of science communication actions (lectures to high-school students, activities for primary-school students with performative arts, activities with senior communities, demonstrations and exhibits of projects, development of contents for projects’ webpage, interviews for radio broadcasting). She coordinated the science & art projects “The sea rolls the sand” (2017) and “Embodying memories” (2019). She is a member of the Portuguese SCiComPT and the international PCST networks. She published her findings in 2 peer-reviewed book chapters, 52 papers, and over 40 conference communications.
